How To Continue Grilling In The Rain | Let The Party Continue

BBQ Shelter

When rain starts to pour down, most people quit the idea of grilling or just simply move their barbeque grills inside the house. However, I must warn you that you should neither move BBQ grills inside the house nor should you put them under a tent. The open flames and heat are fire hazards; therefore, they should be kept at least 3 meters (10 feet) away from all kinds of flammable structures.
Therefore, in this particular article, I am going to share some guidance tips that will help you grill in the rain. The tips I’m about to share with you only require a little common sense and a smidge of creativity.

BBQ Shelters

One of the best ways of protecting your grill from rain during winter is to buy a barbeque shelter. Most BBQ shelters are made of wood and have enough space for a couple to move around easily; thus, offering you a chance to socialise with your friends while preparing the food.
A Wooden BBQ shelter will also give you the chance to locate your BBQ grill far away from the house and other flammable structures.

Canopies And Grilling Umbrellas

In case you don’t have the budget to buy a shelter or the required equipment and skills to build one, then you should consider using canopies or grilling umbrellas. Some patio umbrellas also come with a weighted base; they can provide you the ultimate protection from rain and make sure that your grill stays dry during the rainfall.
They will most likely work if there’s not a lot of wind and the rain isn’t too heavy.
Grilling umbrellas usually stand tall and are heat resistant. Hot dog vendors have been using them at the beach for several decades now so it is probably a safe choice. However, they will only be useful during light rainfall.

Avoid Using Electric Grills

The use of  electric grill during rain will probably be a bad idea, especially if the grill needs to be connected through a cord to a wall outlet. The cords will most likely get wet and someone might get electrocuted.
However, if you’re left with no other choice but to use an electric grill then you should at least use a single long cord instead of multiple extensions to power up the grill.
So it’s better if you either use propane gas or a charcoal grill. Even though most experts agree that  propane grills are relatively easier to light, charcoal grills produce a more scrumptious taste.

Barbecue Wind Shields

If you went with the choice of buying a traditional wooden barbeque shelter, you will have to find a way to prevent heavy wind from blowing out the charcoal ashes or the flame. This is where windbreaks or windshields will come in.
Windshields come with heat resistant panels that can be positioned around the shelter in order to divert the flow of air around it. It will also prevents the flame from blowing out.

Preheat The Grill

The cold weather will make it difficult for you to warm up the barbeque smoker or grill quickly. Therefore, you will have to allocate an ample amount of time in order to heat the grill in advance.
Furthermore, visit your local BBQ wholesale stores and see if they have any easy to grill meat items like rib racks and chuck roast. These items don’t need excessive supervision.
It means that you won’t even have to open you grill’s lid every few minutes, which will in turn help you maintain the internal temperature of the grill.
